Lead Software Engineer ( Java backend )

Lead a small, agile team of developers responsible for designing, developing, and deploying cloud-native microservices using Java and Kubernetes clusters.  Have a strong background in software development, particularly with cloud-native microservice languages, frameworks and technologies like Java, Spring Boot and Kubernetes. Use, evaluate, and learn exciting new technologies that keep products and teams on the cutting edge.  Provide technical direction and oversight as a hands-on leader who can mentor team members, drive technical decisions, and ensure the delivery of high-quality, scalable solutions.  Contribute to the leadership of cross-functional teams.  Help lead the design, development, and maintenance of complex enterprise cloud-native microservice solutions with a focus on quality, performance, flexibility, scalability and independent deployment.

• 3+ years actively leading senior and junior developers on an Agile development team.
• 5+ years of proficiency in Java 8 or later and expert knowledge in Core Java.
• 5+ years of proficiency developing, unit-testing and implementing cloud-native microservices.
• Experience with AI coding assistants like GitHub Copilot.
• Experience with code quality tools like SonarQube
• Server-side technologies such as WebLogic, Messaging/MOM (JMS, MQSeries), EJB 2.0/3.0, and Web Services (SOAP, REST), MyBatis/Hibernate, JAXB, DOM/STAX parser, XML, and JSON.
• Web UI frameworks and technologies such as Struts, Spring MVC, Spring AOP, Spring Security, HTML 5, CSS, JavaScript, JSP, Servlet, AJAX, JQuery, AngularJS, and Bootstrap.
• Expert in writing complex SQL/PLSQL, functions and Triggers in an Oracle environment.
• Expert in writing build scripts using ANT, Maven and Gradle
• 3+ years of experience in CI/CD using Jenkins and GitHub
• 3+ years of experience in GitHub
• 3+ years of experience in using logging frameworks like log4j, Logback, SFL4j and commons logging etc.
• 5+ years of experience in Linux/Unix commands.
• Experience in an Agile development environment utilizing the Scrum and Scaled Agile.
• Experience with web and cloud-based applications that handle high-volume and require high-uptime and performance (preferably JEE-based).
• Knowledge of healthcare messaging standards such as HL7, FHIR, NCPDP, and DIRECT.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Oversee the work being done by other software engineers working on the team, coordinating team activities with other teams and product groups, maintaining software architecture standards.
• Consistently defines and applies technologies, standards and software engineering practices, mentoring other team members
• Contributes in leading and directing software engineering resources to ensure timely and quality delivery of services. 
• Responsible for mentoring junior talent as well as directing technical staff through technical challenges, tasks and projects. 
• Develop key product features within existing large-scale enterprise applications & new strategic initiatives.
• Participate in the full SDLC involving design, implementation, testing, and launching.
• Collaborate with cross-functional partners (QA, Business Analyst, Tech Pubs, etc.) in an Agile/Scrum team environment.
• Assist with the generation and analysis of business and functional requirements for proposed software solutions.
• Participate in and sometimes lead architectural and database design discussions as they relate to product direction.
• Create design specifications, documentation, and unit testing plans as defined by the Agile development process.
• Generate data for project planning, including task breakdown and estimation of work for a project.  Tracks status within the project as necessary.
• Delegates tasks to project team members to balance work and increase team cross-training
• Raises long-term architecture issues within project
• Own the delivery of an entire piece of a system or application, and serve as a technical lead on small to midsize complex projects.
• Build software solutions where the problem is not well defined. Design and define the interaction between the other component pieces.
• Maintain and support software solutions post-production.
• Implements and debugs some of the more involved/complex functionality.
